The original huts that are still presently standing were built around the 1930’s. They have been re-furbished several times to keep them going but had really had their time many years ago. The club were thinking about re-building back in the 1980’s but no real progress was made.
New committee members were brought on board in 2008 and they were determined to do something about the outdated buildings. Discussions with the Regional Cricket Development Officer from the YCB took place and a plan implemented tobuild a brand new pavilion. Every meeting possible was attended (Regional Panel meetings/Development Group meetings/grant applications) to show our commitment and glean ideas as to how to achieve such an imposing task.
Planning permission was granted in September 2013. This meant building had to commence within 3 years of this date. The Chairman S. Robinson had come up with a design which was then put into a drawing and building regulations with the help of an architect.
The English Cricket Board were then approached and initially agreed a grant of £60000 (with a further £10000 when building had commenced) together with a £10000 interest free loan. A successful lottery bid provided a further £75000 and a bid for an additional £50000 written by the Treasurer C.Todd was submitted to Yorventure and agreed. Smaller grants from Craven DC of £2000 and Sutton PC £500 gave a total of £207500 towards the total cost of £234000 with the balance coming from club funding.
The pavilion has proved to be extremely popular both with members, villagers and hirers for their parties. The pavilion is open to non-members and available for hire at £20 per hour from mid September to mid April.
We look forward to seeing you through the Summer when the bar and cricket areavailable from 2 O’clock Saturdays and most Sundays.
